Met Opera's 'The Enchanted Island' to be Livecast on Jan. 21

The Met: Live in HD continues on Saturday, January 21 at 12:55pm ET with the world-premiere show of "The Enchanted Island," a mashup of two Shakespeare plays: "The Tempest" and " A Midsummer Night's Dream."

In 'The Enchanted Island', the lovers from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream are shipwrecked on his other-worldly island of The Tempest. Inspired by the musical pastiches and masques of the 18th century, the work showcases arias and ensembles by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau, and others, and a new libretto by Jeremy Sams. Eminent conductor William Christie leads an all-star cast headed by David Daniels, Joyce DiDonato, and Plácido Domingo. This world-premiere production is directed and designed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch.
William Christie conducts, and Deborah Voigt hosts the HD livecast, thanks to digital cinema. The 3-and-a-half-hour opera, which opened in las December 31, 2011 in New York, will be broadcast live in HD at the Digiplex Bloomfield 8 in Bloomfield, Connecticut and at the Digiplex Cranford Theater in Cranford, New Jersey. The encore presentation will occur on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6:30pm ET.
