‘LEONARDO LIVE’ COMES TO THE BIG SCREEN.

New digital cinema technology is now giving us the opportunity to watch and live amazing events that are happening around the world and here is just one example of it. On Thursday, February 16 at 7:00pm ET, NCM Fathom will present the “first-ever-high- definition tour of a fine art exhibition created for movie theater audiences”

 “During this unprecedented event, audiences will experience the UK’s National Gallery’s sold out exhibition Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan. Captured live in HD in November 2011 just before its opening, Leonardo Live provides a virtual walk-through of the show, with exclusive commentary from scholars and curators. Hosted by highly respected art historian Tim Marlow and presenter Mariella Frostrup, the exhibition brings together the largest number of da Vinci’s rare surviving painting and some international loans. While numerous exhibitions have looked at da Vinci as an inventor, scientist or draftsman, this is the first to be dedicated to his aims and techniques as a painter.

Featuring the finest paintings and drawings by the famed Italian Renaissance polymath and his followers, Leonardo Live showcases paintings, including the “Belle Ferronière” (Musée du Louvre, Paris), the “Madonna Litta” (The State Hermitage, Saint Petersburg), as well as the newly discovered, never-exhibited painting, the “Salvator Mundi.” The exhibition will also feature a near-contemporary, full-scale copy of the “Last Supper,” on loan from The Royal Academy of Arts, London. Additionally, two versions of the “Virgin of the Rocks” – belonging to the National Gallery and the Louvre – will be shown together for the first time during this one-night HD presentation.

Met Opera's 'The Enchanted Island' to be Livecast on Jan. 21

The Met: Live in HD continues on Saturday, January 21 at 12:55pm ET with the world-premiere show of "The Enchanted Island," a mashup of two Shakespeare plays: "The Tempest" and " A Midsummer Night's Dream."

In 'The Enchanted Island', the lovers from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream are shipwrecked on his other-worldly island of The Tempest. Inspired by the musical pastiches and masques of the 18th century, the work showcases arias and ensembles by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau, and others, and a new libretto by Jeremy Sams. Eminent conductor William Christie leads an all-star cast headed by David Daniels, Joyce DiDonato, and Plácido Domingo. This world-premiere production is directed and designed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch.

William Christie conducts, and Deborah Voigt hosts the HD livecast, thanks to digital cinema. The 3-and-a-half-hour opera, which opened in las December 31, 2011 in New York, will be broadcast live in HD at the Digiplex Bloomfield 8 in Bloomfield, Connecticut and at the Digiplex Cranford Theater in Cranford, New Jersey. The encore presentation will occur on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 6:30pm ET.

Kevin Smith: Live From Behind on Feb. 2, 2012

Writer and Director of ‘Chasing Amy’ and ‘Red State’, Kevin Smith was born and raised in New Jersey. His first film “Clerks” was filmed in the convenience store where we worked at the time and he was only allowed to shoot at night. This movie won the highest award at the Sundance film festival and was brought to theaters by Miramax.

 He is now preparing for his upcoming One Night Event Kevin Smith:Live from Behind  featuring Jay and Silent Bob Get Old. The three-hour event will begin with Smith (Silent Bob) and frequent co-star Jason Mewes (Jay) hosting their highly rated podcast, "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old" followed by a Live Q&A session with audiences around the country using social media. Viewers will be able to submit their questions via Twitter, using the hashtag #livefrombehind and have them answered LIVE in real time by Smith and Mewes, who will be broadcasting from the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto, Ontario on Thursday, February 2  at 9:30pm ET.

Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance on January 28

The 'Joffrey:Mavericks of American Dance' film is coming to our Digiplex Bloomfield 8 and Cranford Theaters on Saturday 28, 2012 at 1:30pm ET. This documentary focuses on Chicago’s Joffrey Ballet, a groundbreaking dance company which fused traditional ballet with elements of modern dance and modern music to revolutionize the art form. The film features rare excerpts from many seminal Joffrey works including Astarte, Trinity and Billboards, and is narrated by Tony® and Emmy® Award winner Mandy Patinkin.

Thanks to digital cinema and social media, the event will include a special Q&A session following the film featuring talent from the Joffrey Ballet that is simulcast live to the theaters. Theatergoers will have the opportunity to ask the panelists questions in real time via Twitter: #joffreymovie

The Nutcracker from the Royal Ballet Series Dec 16- 22

Thanks to the promise of Digital Cinema, your Digiplex Destinations theaters in Westfield NJ and Bloomfield CT are bringing 'The Nutcracker' from the Royal Ballet. The Nutcracker, a beloved holiday tradition for generations of families around the globe, will be shown in HD starting on Friday December 16 until Thursday December 22 at the Digiplex Rialto Theater of Westfield NJ and at the Digiplex Bloomfield 8 Theater in Connecticut.

Classical ballet at its most approachable and visually entrancing. A seasonal favorite with something for everyone to enjoy, Hoffman's story tells of one Christmas Eve, when young Clara creeps downstairs for one of her presents, but instead finds herself at the start of a night of magical adventures as the Christmas tree magically grows and the toy soldiers come to life to fight the Mouse King! The beautifully colored imaginings of the fantasy Sugar Garden and its celebratory dances make a fabulous contrast and Peter Wright's production tells the story clearly from its mysterious start to its happy conclusion. Through it all, Tchaikovsky's music is some of the most instantly memorable of all ballet, with a wealth of famous melodies.
